Western birth chart
The Sun sign is one part of a larger map. A full birth chart places the Sun, Moon, planets, rising sign, and houses at the time and place you were born.
Quick answer
A Western astrology birth chart is a map of the sky for a specific birth time and place. Planets describe functions, zodiac signs describe how they are expressed, houses describe where they tend to appear, and aspects show how the parts interact.
What is acting
The Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, and other planets represent different drives and needs.
How it acts
The sign colors the style in which a planet's function is expressed.
Where it acts
Houses connect chart themes to areas such as identity, work, relationships, and home.
The Sun often describes conscious direction and identity. The Moon describes emotional needs and familiar reactions. The rising sign describes the chart's starting point, first approach, and the house structure. Looking at all three is more personal than reading a Sun-sign horoscope alone.
Birth time and place affect the rising sign and houses. If the time is unknown, many planetary positions can still be read, but a responsible report should not invent an Ascendant or precise houses.
Both systems calculate a birth pattern, but their languages differ. Astrology uses planets, signs, houses, and aspects; Saju uses stems, branches, yin and yang, and the Five Elements. The useful comparison is not whether labels match word for word, but whether both systems point to a similar lived pattern.
